I am a skilled proofreader and editor. I’ve been editing and proofreading for fellow fiction writers since I was in high school. In college I was the leader of the campus writers’ club for two years, as well as co-editor of the newspaper during the same period, during which I critiqued and proofed a large number of pieces both great and small. Directly after college I worked for two and a half years as a writer, editor, and proofreader for a marketing and design company. I’m currently proofreading and editing for a group of fellow writers at childrenofthewells.com, as well as writing for that project.
If you’d like to hire me to critique your book, novella, or short story (as well as non-fiction pieces), contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Give me your word count, the type of writing it is, and the depth of editing or proofing you want done, and I will give you a quote. General rates are below.
Heavy Editing: $0.035/word
This kind of editing would include comments on your characters and plot development, notes on setting and pacing, and other such detailed feedback to help you make your piece the best it can be. I will point out where the writing seems to drag, phrases or passages that can be cut, inconsistent characterization, plot holes, and all the other details that can drive readers away.
Light Editing: $0.01/word
At this level I will point out awkward phrases and strange word choices, as well as reading closely for grammar and spelling mistakes. If a continuity, plot, or character error is glaring, I will also note that.
For this service I will read only for grammar and spelling errors.
At all levels of service I will go over the piece a minimum of two times, possibly three, or more if you want to keep making changes and getting my feedback. For more than four pass-throughs, the rate will rise slightly.
